Vint Cerf Wonders If We Need To Nationalize the Internet.
Well, for one thing, it's not national. It's global.
Secondly, "the Internet" is not a thing. It's a set of connections and contracts based on standards and protocols.
So what are we talking about here? Does anybody have a transcript or good notes on Cerf's comments at the Personal Democracy Forum?
I am sure that Cerf had much more complex and profound thoughts about governance than this quip.
Oddly, this off-the-cuff remark has now been twisted into some sort of Google-Internet grab by at least one writer. Yeesh. Apparently, this means that Google has some sort of plan in the works! Of course this is nonsense.
The Google-noia is growing!
Man, no one gets a break here on the Internets.
